Coming soon in Chiang Mai, Thailand, “Celebration of 10th anniversary of the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples – UNDRIP. Meet with over than 35 ethnic groups accross Thailand, listen to their stories, share your view on the challenges and accheivement of UNDRIP in the past ten years, move forward together an effecitive strategy to protect, promote and fullfil the rights of indigenous peoples in Thailand.
The Network of Indigenous Peoples in Thailand [NIPT] and the Council of Indigenous Peoples in Thailand [CIPT], and their partners and networks have joined together to organize celebrations of Indigenous Peoples Day, from 2007 to 2014, to assist both the government and public to better understand the strengths, situation & problems, identity and culture of indigenous peoples throughout the nation. During this period, they have joined in these activities and become better able to recognize and accept IP values and lifestyles and respect for IPs. In addition, in 2014 and 2015, National Assemblies of Indigenous People in Thailand focused on mutual exchange and learning among IP leaders, government officers, academics, social developers, human rights workers, and related interested parties. These were organized together with various campaigns in the name of International Day of the World’s Indigenous People 2017 [9 August] in line with the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples-UNDRIP. This year, 2017, marks the 10th anniversary of this UN declaration, with a continuing focus on the rights of indigenous people and acceptance of their identity and diverse lifestyles, i.e. One decade of UNDRIP: Lessons, Challenges and the Future of Indigenous Peoples in Thailand.
